Bigger houses, bigger glass, more remodel work
The housing here skews newer and larger, and that changes what we get asked for. Less patching up glass that has reached the end of its life, more people upgrading something that still works but no longer looks the way they want.
Frameless shower enclosures are the clearest example. A frameless panel has no frame to hide behind and no track to take up the slack, so every millimetre of the opening shows. In a newer house the tile is usually close to true, which helps, but close is not the same as square and we still template rather than assume.
Bigger houses also mean bigger single pieces of glass. Large patio and slider panels, tall shower panels, oversized mirrors for a double vanity or a home gym. Those are heavy, awkward and dangerous to move without the right rack and enough hands, which is most of the reason people stop trying to do it themselves.

When during a bathroom remodel should the shower glass be measured?
After the tile is finished and before you plan the reveal. Frameless glass is templated off the finished surface, not off the drawing, because the tile is what the panels actually meet. Measure too early and the panels will not fit the room you end up with. From template to install is typically one to two weeks.
Is a frameless shower enclosure worth it over a framed one?
It depends on the bathroom, not on taste alone. Frameless costs more, needs thicker tempered glass and solid blocking behind the tile for the hinges, and is less forgiving of walls that are out of square. What you get is no metal track to corrode and far less to clean. A framed enclosure is the better answer in an out of square opening on a tight budget.
Can one pane of a patio door be replaced without a new door?
Usually yes. Patio door glass sits in a removable stop, so a failed or broken unit comes out and a new tempered one goes back in while the door, the track and the hardware stay. A new door is only needed when the frame itself is bent or the rollers and rails have gone.
