What we handle on commercial buildings

Most of our work. Retail frontages, offices, restaurants and multi-unit buildings across the valley.

Storefront glass and entrances

Broken, cracked or fogged storefront glass, aluminum entrance doors, closers and hardware. Where the frame is straight we reglaze it and the frame stays put, which is faster and cheaper than a full replacement.

  • Tempered and insulated storefront glass
  • Entrance door glass, closers and hardware
  • Reglaze the existing frame, or replace the frame
  • Failed insulated units that have fogged over

Emergency board-up

A break-in or an accident leaves an open wall onto the street. We close it, secure it, and come back with the glass once it is cut to size. See emergency board-up.

Office partitions and interior glass

Interior glass walls, partitions and door lites for offices and clinics. Fitted to the opening you have, not to a catalog size. See glass partitions.

Handrails and glass railings

Glass railing panels, posts and standoffs for stairs, mezzanines, balconies and walkways. See glass railings.

Mirrors and wall glass

Gym, studio and restroom mirrors cut to size, including the oversized pieces that are awkward to get up a stairwell.

Tabletops and shelving

Custom glass tabletops, display shelving and counter glass, cut and polished to your dimensions.

Interior glass walls and office fronts

Frameless walls, glass office fronts and sliding or swing glass doors are enough of the work that they have their own page, with the full range, the honest answer on noise and what moves the price.

The same frontage, before and after

A storefront job is easy to photograph once it is finished and glass is in. This is what it looked like when we turned up.

Before A commercial storefront opening framed and unglazed with a ladder propped against the brickwork
Framed opening, no glass, building open to the street.
After The same storefront completed with dark framing, fixed glazing and double entrance doors
Glazed, doors hung, ready to trade.

Storefront glass, city by city

What changes city to city is rarely the glass. It is the buildings, the access and the deadlines. These pages cover what is different about each one.

How a commercial job runs

Glass is cut to order, so no honest glazier can hand you the finished job the same hour. Here is what happens, and where the waiting is.

  1. 1

    Secure the opening

If the glass is out, this comes first, the same day you call. Boarding is not the repair, it is what stops the next problem while the repair is being made.

  2. 2

    Measure and quote in writing

We measure the opening on site. Glass is priced by the piece, by size, thickness and type, so a number over the phone is a guess and a number after measuring is a price.

  3. 3

    Order and cut

This is the wait. Standard clear tempered is quicker than an insulated unit or anything laminated or tinted. We will tell you which one you are waiting on.

  4. 4

    Install around your hours

We fit the install to your trading day where we can, so the doors are open when your customers arrive. Every install carries a one year warranty on our workmanship.

What commercial glass costs

Two starting points, both real. The final number depends on the size of the opening, the thickness and the type of glass, which is why we measure before we quote.

Reglaze an existing frameCheaper Glass swapped, frame stays

The usual outcome when the frame is straight and only the glass failed. Faster and cheaper than replacing the whole assembly.

New frame and glassDearer Frame and glass replaced

When the frame is bent, corroded or gone, usually after an impact. Includes the new frame, the glass and the install.

Every quoteFree Priced after we measure

No charge for the estimate and no obligation to book. You get the number in writing and you decide from there.

Who this is for

We would rather tell you now than on site.

A good fit

  • Retail, restaurant and office frontages across the Salt Lake Valley
  • Property managers who need one glazier they can call repeatedly
  • Buildings where the same visit can cover glass, a handrail and a mirror
  • Anyone who has been boarded up for a week waiting on somebody else

Not us

  • Auto glass. We do not work on vehicles. A windshield or a car window needs an auto glass shop.
  • Jobs priced sight unseen. We measure before we quote, every time.
  • Work outside our areas. Call and ask, and we will say so if it is not worth the drive.

Commercial questions we get asked

How much does it cost to replace storefront glass?
Storefront glass is priced by the piece, so the opening decides the number. Size, thickness and whether the pane has to be tempered or insulated move it from there, which is why we measure on site before quoting.
What kind of glass is used for storefront windows?
Commercial storefronts use tempered safety glass, and often insulated units of two tempered panes for energy code. Tempered is required by code in most storefront locations because it breaks into blunt pieces instead of shards. Annealed glass is not a legal substitute in an entrance or a full-height pane, whatever it costs to replace.
Can you replace just the glass in a front door?
Usually yes. Commercial entrance doors are built so the glass sits in a removable stop, so a broken pane comes out and a new tempered unit goes in without replacing the door or the closer. The door itself only needs replacing when the frame is bent or the rails have pulled apart.
How much does it cost to replace the glass in a front door?
Entrance door glass is quoted per opening because door panes are almost never a stock size and are nearly always tempered, which has to be cut and tempered to order rather than cut from stock. We measure the daylight opening, confirm the thickness, then price it. Boarding in the meantime is separate.
How long does it take to get replacement storefront glass?
Tempered and insulated units are made to order, which typically takes a few days, because tempering cannot be done after the glass is cut. We board the opening the same day you call so the building is secure and trading, then come back to set the glass. Anything we can cut from stock is faster.
Can storefront glass be replaced outside business hours?
Yes, and for a shopfront that is usually the point. We schedule the glass set around trading so the entrance is not blocked while you are open. Tell us your hours when we measure and we will book it around them.
Who pays for storefront glass, the tenant or the landlord?
It depends on the lease, and it is worth checking before the work rather than after. Most commercial leases put the glazing on the tenant while the structure stays with the landlord, but plenty are written the other way. We can put the estimate in whichever name you need for the claim or the reimbursement.
