Glass and shower enclosures in Park City

Park City is the hardest environment we work in and the one that is toughest on glass. Seven thousand feet, hard winters, big temperature swings and houses built around a view that only exists because of the window in front of it.

Altitude and weather are hard on sealed glass

A double pane window is a sealed pocket of air, and air responds to altitude and temperature. Up here the unit spends its life being pushed and pulled as the outside temperature swings between a sunny afternoon and a hard freeze the same night. That works the seal, and a worked seal is a seal that eventually fails.

So the fogged sealed unit, which is a slow annoyance down in the valley, turns up sooner and more often in Park City. It is also more visible, because the whole point of the window is usually the view through it.

The second Park City feature is scale. Mountain houses, condos and lodges are designed around large spans of glass, and large panes are heavier, more awkward and less forgiving than the same job in a valley subdivision. Access is often harder too. Steep drives, tight lanes, snow for a good part of the year and a unit on the third floor of a building with no lift big enough for a panel.

None of that is a reason not to do the work. It is a reason to measure carefully, plan the access before the glass is cut, and be honest about the weather window.

What we get called for most in Park City

Weighted toward large glass and units that have failed at altitude.

Failed sealed units at altitude

Fogged double pane glass, replaced as a sealed unit inside the frame you already have. Common up here, and usually the cheaper kind of window job.

Large view glass

Big single panes for mountain homes and lodges, where the window is the reason the room is pointed the way it is. Measured and planned for access before anything is cut.

Condo and lodge glass

Shower enclosures, mirrors and window glass in condos and lodges, worked around building access rules and the times you are allowed to be noisy.

Park City questions

Where can I get window glass replaced in Park City?
We cover Park City for window glass, shower enclosures, mirrors and commercial work, including condos and lodges with restricted access. Call (801) 678-5770, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm. We measure on site and quote in writing.
Why do windows fog up faster at altitude in Park City?
Because the pressure difference works the seal harder. An insulated unit is sealed at the altitude it was made at, so a unit fabricated in the valley and installed at Park City elevation sits under constant internal pressure, flexing the seal through every temperature swing. Big daily temperature ranges add to it. Units made for altitude use a breather tube or are built for the elevation.
Can large glass be replaced in winter?
Yes, with the weather planned for rather than ignored. Sealants and glazing tapes have minimum application temperatures, and a large panel is dangerous to handle in wind or on ice. We schedule the set for the right conditions and board the opening in the meantime if it is broken out, rather than rushing a seal that will fail in spring.
Can glass be installed in a condo or lodge with restricted access?
Yes, and access is usually the real constraint rather than the glass. Lifts, stairwells, service corridors and booking windows all decide whether a panel can reach the unit in one piece. We check the route at the measure, because a panel that cannot get up the stairs has to become a matched multi panel layout, and that changes the quote.
