A mirror cannot be trimmed on site. Cutting silvered glass chips the backing along the cut and the damage shows as a dark line at the edge. So the measurement has to be right before it is cut, which is why we measure instead of asking you to.
Big mirrors are heavier than they look and they flex. A large sheet carried flat will bow under its own weight and can break in your hands. That is most of the reason to have someone else carry it up the stairs, and it is why we check the route in before we cut anything.
Cutouts happen before silvering, not after. If you want a hole for a sconce or a socket, decide it early. Adding one later means a new mirror, not a new hole.
None of this is a reason to be nervous about it. It is a reason to have the measurement, the route and the cutouts settled before anything is made, which is what the estimate visit is for.
